SME Corp. Malaysia began on May 2, 1996, when a specialised agency within the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) was founded to help SME development through infrastructure, financial, advising, and market access programmes.

SME Corp. Malaysia Celebrating 25th Anniversary
SME Corporation Malaysia (SME Corp. Malaysia) is a central coordinating agency (CCA) under the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (MEDAC). It also provides business advisory services to SMEs and entrepreneurs across the country.
SME Corp. Malaysia is the national information and advising hub for SMEs. In addition to the SME Hub in Kuala Lumpur, SME Corp. Malaysia has 12 State Offices across the country to assist SMEs and entrepreneurs. It also houses agencies under MEDAC, such as SME Bank, TEKUN Nasional, Bank Rakyat, National Institute of Entrepreneurship (INSKEN), UDA Holdings Berhad, Co-operative Institute of Malaysia (CIM), Malaysia Co-operative Societies Commission (SKM), and Perbadanan Nasional (PNS), as well as other agencies such as Intellectual Property Corporat.

SME Corp. Malaysia coordinates, streamlines, monitors, and analyses the progress and efficiency of SME development projects administered by 17 Ministries and nearly 60 agencies. The SME Integrated Plan of Action collects data from key Ministries and Agencies annually (SMEIPA).
